Government & Business

Rural Pike County is uniquely positioned to represent the classic concept of the SMALL TOWN in America. With less than 20,000 residents, spread out over 218 square miles, the population density is remarkably “easy to live with”. The COUNTY GOVERNMENT (www.co.pike.ga.us) and community civic groups are quite active and work together to promote the economic development of the area in ways that continue to preserve the culture and heritage of our communities.

Pike County operates under the county manager form of government which includes a County Commission Chairman and four County Commissioners from the various districts. An active form of government includes several Authorities that are planning and implementing the necessary infrastructure to make this a great community.

In addition to Zebulon, Pike County has four incorporated municipalities including Concord, Meansville, Molena, and Williamson. A Collection of Small Towns... Pike County GA is an oasis of balanced living between major urban centers.

Pike County Water & Sewerage Authority
The Pike County Water & Sewerage Authority was created by the Georgia Legislature to begin the development of a public water and sewerage system for the citizens of the county. Continued growth in our residential population and the need to supply water and sewerage for retail and industrial customers led to the decision to form the Authority.

Pike County Agribusiness Authority
The Pike County Agribusiness Authority was established by the Georgia Legislature in 1995, at the request of the Pike County agribusiness community and the County Commission. Its purpose is to support and enhance the industry of agriculture.

The Authority is managed by a five member Board and appointed by the Pike County Commission. Major emphasis is placed on guiding and facilitating the transition of agriculture in Pike County from traditional large farms to smaller, often second-income and hobby farms.

Pike County agricultural production includes naturally grown vegetables, fruits for market, small animals, poultry enterprises, equine activities, forestry, and ornamental horticulture. The Authority is actively seeking ways to provide new opportunities for Pike agriculture to take advantage of the proximity of major metropolitan markets of Atlanta, Macon and Columbus. The continued success of its farming sector will contribute to the much sought-after rural character that is so prized by the citizens of Pike County.

Zebulon Downtown Development Authority
The Zebulon Downtown Authority is charged with promotion and development of historic downtown center of Zebulon. The seven-member board is appointed by the City Council for four-year terms.

The DDA’s mission includes business recruitment, promotion of downtown, and design assistance. The DDA presents a series of concerts on the courthouse lawn and seasonal celebrations including the Pimiento Festival in May and the traditional Christmas Celebration in early December.
